Healthy is The New Skinny

We all want to love the way we look and feel. Yet, most women (and men) struggle their whole life to find that happy place. We are blasted every single day by images of unrealistic women in magazines, television, and all other types of media and we constantly feel the need to compare ourselves to them.

It’s easy to end up in a vicious cycle of unhealthy dieting, self sabotaging, and a poor body image in an attempt to get to a place that ultimately doesn’t result in happiness. We are told that it is beautiful to be ‘thin’ and that if you are skinny you will be happy. That’s just not the case.

Here are 5 simple things you can do to help yourself get a healthy body image so you can start loving the skin you’re in.

1. Embrace What Your Mama Gave You. Focus on all of the things you love about your body. You can’t learn to fully embrace your flaws and be happy with your imperfections until you embrace what you love about yourself.

2. Talk Yourself Up. Go ahead and flatter yourself. You may not love your body right now, but the more positive self talk and affirmations you tell yourself, the more you will love what you have and will automatically feel better about yourself.

3. Don’t compare yourself to others. Every single one of us is incredibly unique. You don’t compare your personality and thoughts with others and you shouldn’t compare your butt with someone else’s, either.

4. Eat to Live and Exercise to Live Longer. Make healthy decisions every day, finding a balance with nutrition and exercise. The more balance you find in this area, the more you will naturally get to the happy place of where your body should be physically.

5. Keep Perspective. We all know that our bodies are constantly changing. If you’re a size 14 now and think life is going to be perfect and full of bliss at a size 0, you’re wrong. When most women reach that goal weight, they still never feel satisfied. Focus on being healthy, and the rest will follow.

It is not measured by a number on the scale, a size of clothing, or how good you look in that bathing suite… it’s about being HEALTHY.

Living a life where there is a balance of good nutrition, exercise, and a positive body image. It’s about being in a place where you can embrace your body, just as it is.
